Frugal Math: Trash Pick-Up
We have two options for dealing with trash here in the country. One is to use our local landfill and the other is to pay a service for trash pick-up. We had checked into a service when we first moved out here, but back then, the prices were quite high compared to us taking care of it ourselves. Then enters a new dilemma. Our truck bit the dust a few months back and it’s been tricky loading … Read entire article »

Thrift Store Finds
Last week I made a stop at one of our local thrift stores and found these two flower cones. I plan on using them for my laundry room makeover. They were .99 cents ea. and they look brand new. My favorite color is green so these will work great. I think the lines and the two-tone color on the handles add … Read entire article »
Menu Plan Monday
The trial of trying out 2-week menu planning has ended. We had $14.46 left in our grocery envelope(category). So it was successful in part. For now though, I’m going to shop weekly. For our family, we seem to have more leftover at the end of each week than we did with two-week shopping. We have lots of company coming for … Read entire article »
Feeding My Freezer: Freezing Beans
We eat beans regulary in our home, but with prices going up and up, I’m on the look out for finding more ways to incorporate them into our diet. Have you noticed the price of a can of beans lately? Meatballs with Sauce
This is my favorite meatball recipe. I’ve included the recipe for the special sauce that goes with these, but these are great to use in any dish that calls for meatballs. Not to mention, it’s a great meat/money stretching recipe. 3 pounds lean ground beef 2 eggs 1 can evaporated milk 1/4 tsp. garlic powder 2 tsps. salt 1/2 tsp. black pepper 2 tsps. chili powder 1 med. onion-chopped fine 1 … Read entire article »

Spicy Cheese Garlic Bread
This bread is one of our favorites. It’s great by itsself or with any meal, but it’s especially good with Italian dishes. 1/2 stick butter-softened (we use the real thing) 1 Tbsp. olive oil 1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes 1/8 tsp. kosher salt 1/8-1/4 tsp. garlic powder 2 Tbsp. parmesan cheese Loaf French bread Mix all ingredients together thoroughly. Slice French bread and lay in a single layer on baking pan. Spread mixture covering entire surface of slices. Broil until edges are lightly browned and bread bubbly. Enjoy! Note: The measurements given can be adjusted to your family’s taste. I double the recipe when making a large loaf of bread. Edited to Add: If you’d like to print a post on this site, just scroll down to the end of … Read entire article »
An Easier Way to Fill Freezer Bags
Filling freezer bags with sauces, soups, or any liquid can be challenging. I thought I’d share an easy way to make it less messy and in my opinion, quicker. I insert a freezer bag inside a mason jar. If I want to fill a gallon sized bag, then I use a quart sized mason jar. For a quart baggy, I use … Read entire article »
